The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the foreign trade indices for February.
According to the data, the export unit value index decreased by 4.3% in February compared to the same month last year. The index showed a decline of 0.2% in food, beverages, and tobacco, 8.4% in raw materials (excluding fuel), 6.9% in fuels, and 4.3% in manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages, tobacco).
The import unit value index decreased by 5.9% on an annual basis in February. Compared to the same month last year, the index fell by 3.1% in food, beverages, and tobacco, 17% in fuels, 4.1% in raw materials (excluding fuel), and 3.8% in manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages, tobacco).
EXPORT QUANTITY INDEX
The export quantity index increased by 18.6% in February compared to the same month last year. During the same period, the index rose by 32.2% in food, beverages, and tobacco, 22.2% in raw materials (excluding fuel), 60% in fuels, and 14.7% in manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages, tobacco).
On the other hand, the import quantity index decreased by 3.5% in February on an annual basis. The index showed a decrease of 6.4% in food, beverages, and tobacco, 19% in raw materials (excluding fuel), 2.8% in fuels, and an increase of 9.7% in manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages, tobacco).
SEASONALLY AND CALENDAR ADJUSTED DATA
According to the seasonally and calendar adjusted series, the export quantity index increased by 1.7% from 152.8 in January to 155.5 in February. In the same manner, based on the adjusted series, the export quantity index increased by 13.9% from 125.3 in last year's February to 148.2 this year.
Similarly, the import quantity index increased by 6.3% from 116.1 in January to 123.3 in February. However, based on the adjusted series, the index decreased by 6.7% from 125 in last year's February to 116.6 in the same month this year.
